Swedish Massage is the most common and best known modality of bodywork in the industry. It can be soothing and gentle or deep and releasing. Performed directly on the skin, oil or lotion are applied with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility. Table Thai, trigger point and cupping therapies are frequently used in conjunction with Swedish Massage.
Thai massage for the table utilizes the therapist's hands, forearms, elbows, knees, legs, and feet to move the client into a series of yoga-like postures and stretches. The guided exchanges during a Table Thai session involve Meridian stretches and Tsubo stimulation to bring balance to the physical and energetic bodies. Table Thai techniques can be incorporated into the Swedish massage modality or as a stand-alone therapy where the client uses loose, comfortable clothing.
Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
Cupping is an ancient body therapy modality used in cultures worldwide. Suction is created on the skin with the application of cups made from silicone, bamboo, glass, or plastic. The cups create a vacuum against the skin, gently lifting tissues up and apart. Blood and lymph fluid circulation is increased in a localized area of the body with the purpose of decreasing muscle tension. In my practice, I use silicone cups and hard plastic cups. Many clients report that Cupping Therapy helps them feel reduced muscle tension and overall well-being. Cupping is not recommended for those with extremely sensitive skin, as it can cause irritation and discomfort. But generally, if a client is medically able to receive massage therapy, they can receive cupping therapy as well.
I am a certified Reiki Master Level practitioner (Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition). Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body's natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, I work directly with a client's energy field to remove blockages, detoxify the system, and restore vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between client and practitioner. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain. Book a reiki session today!
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.
